Degrader is the debut EP by Oktrad, where the multiple origins of the band are shared.
Characterized by an energetic and aggressive style, it becomes the place where the multiple motivators of the band converge, identified by a common spirit: an honest work reflected in the purest form of expression. Degrader not only musically represents the band, but it also generates a banner of identity, giving way towards a path of styles to exploit; A pattern to be drawn in its wide musical spectrum.
A social critique of the system we live in. The lyrics describe the point of view of a person questioning the rules that the authorities have set, and how people do not open their eyes, letting themselves be manipulated by an oppressive and corrupt system.
Exposing the contrast between society masked in social networks in place of the decadence of everyday life outside of these; pointing to a false spirituality and a paper shelter disguising the null capacity to face reality beyond the numbers in social media, demonstrating the unawareness of a blindfolded society.
"Musically, it reflects a feeling of frustration with the current, unsaid principles our society focuses on. Generally speaking, things like materialism and the pseudo-opulence you run into in whatever social network."
- Javier Lardizabal
The lyrics tell the story of a person left behind after watching a loved one tragically pass away by drowning and the aftermath of going through this reflected in severe PTSD.
A very honest poem about what grief feels like written from the character's point of view, accompanied by a haunting melody using strings, arpeggiated guitar riffs, and a steady bass line.
'Swayer' is inspired by the influence and control that social networks exert over today's society.
The title 'Swayer' alludes to the new regime established in a digital world governed through trivial standards, and how the thirst for 'Likes' and 'Followers' can drive some people towards madness.
However, this issue can lend itself to various interpretations. Some members of the band perceive this theme as a social critique, employing rhetoric to point out a series of banalities, which judge the superficiality of the contemporary being, and its behavior both in interpersonal relationships and in the digital world.
